Selena Gomez responded to those who had criticized her physical look by clapping back and confessed that her weight changes as a result of her lupus medication.
She went on to explain that when she takes medication, water retention causes her weight to fluctuate.
She was diagnosed as having lupus in 2014, an immune system-damaging, chronic disease. She received a life-
saving kidney transplant from a longtime friend Francia Raisa, in 2017 to treat the condition.
On Thursday, February 16, Selena Gomez provided clarification in a TikTok Live video that was posted to Twitter.
“I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going for and nobody knows the real story — I just want people to know that you’re
beautiful and you’re wonderful and, yeah, maybe we have days where we feel like s—t but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself " she said.
"I'm not a model, never will be," before stating that her "medications are essential" and "are what help me." Mind you, I think they're awesome, but I am definitely definitely not that.
Gomez thanked her followers for their "understanding" and "support" before pleading with haters to tone down their remarks in the final moments of the video.
She added, "And if not, leave because I honestly don't believe in making fun of people's bodies or anything."
She doesn't let those who body shame her stop her from having fun, she has been open about how it makes her feel when people criticise
changes in her appearance brought on by a medicine she must take for the "rest of my life.
